RE-flower 41
In my work with RE-flower, I have often dealt with plants, stems, branches, and leaves. With plants, I experience something reciprocal – oxygen and carbon dioxide… but it is also more than that. I feel that the plant has my back.
Now I have moved to a place where there are very large deciduous trees. Trees that, at this time of year, are still waiting for the new leaves, the green. But the released leaves, the brown ones, are everywhere. They have not yet found rest but are moving around with the wind, gathering in large piles where there is shelter. Large piles of leaves, experiencing their last sense of togetherness before they are finally broken down. Their cycle is nearing its end.
In my branch of the family, I am now the oldest – that’s just how it goes. But when I sit in my new place, surrounded by trees that are twice as old as I am, I still feel young 🙂
With the current series, I have, among other things, focused on the leaf stem. The place where the individual leaf attaches to something larger, the tree, which in turn attaches to something even larger.
I have personally struggled with how I attach… so much so that many years ago I broke. And through a long life with art, which has been life-giving, I have never managed to figure out how I and my art attach to my present time and the art world.
But in that regard, I am hardly alone.
