Balance When I was very young, I struggled to find balance with everyone else. My close ones, other artists, everyone else. It was much about assigning value… what has value? It never succeeded, and a feeling of isolation made me ill. Mentally ill… which unfortunately resulted in severe physical injuries and a long recovery… both physically and mentally. A significant part of this recovery was about finding balance with myself… within myself. In recent years, I have sensed another shift: the balance within myself is now so consolidated that another balance can assert itself: balance with everything else. And by “everything else,” I’m neither thinking of myself, my next of kin, nor anyone else. I’m thinking of all the other life… plants and animals… all the life that is not human. I find myself increasingly taking a position where equality is desirable… and natural. I make room for everything else… It’s not religious, but rather a value assignment, where as a human being, I find it natural to make room. I am pleased to see that all other life gets space… and thrives. I would rather have a silent nod from all other life in my immediate surroundings than likes on Instagram. I am delighted to see things grow… and they may as well be self-sown 🙂
